source:People’s Post and Telecommunications News time:2023-06-20

Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) released information about the 2023 Mobile World Congress Shanghai (MWCS23) on its official website. MWCS23 will open on June 28th at the Shanghai New International Expo Center and will last for three days. The theme of the Expo will be Velocity, which is consistent with the topic of Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona in February this year. GSMA stated that China’s mobile industry is rapid rising, and China will become the first market with one billion 5G connections by 2025.

GSMA stated that this year’s exhibition has a milestone significance as it marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of MWCS. The organization expressed that China is a global leader in the mobile field, and Shanghai is one of the technology centers of the world’s largest mobile market. Due to significant investment in research and development over the past decade, Shanghai has become a leading global center for technological innovation. Data released by The Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality (STCSM) in September 2022 showed that R&D investment in Shanghai has nearly doubled in the past ten years. Since its establishment ten years ago, MWCS has witnessed the upgrade of the mobile industry from 4G networks to 5G     networks and the growth of China as a giant in mobile infrastructure and device manufacturing. Predictive data shows that Shanghai will add 10,000 new 5G base stations this year, bringing the total number of 5G base stations to 77,000, and 5G data will account for over 60% of the total network traffic.

MWCS23 will focus on three major themes including 5G Transformation, Digital Everything, and Reality+ to explore how 5G, 6G, immersive technology, and financial technology shape the communication industry and create a brighter future. Regarding the exhibition content, GSMA stated that visitors will see the latest solutions from participating companies related to network connectivity, including new mobile phones, laptops, gaming devices, as well as the latest applications and solutions in the fields of 5G, AI, AR/VR, and IoT.

GSMA CEO John Hoffman revealed in an official video that this year’s MWCS will have a larger exhibition area than any previous one. Innovative content, thematic demonstrations and corporate booths will showcase industry achievements from the Super Brand Hall to the Future Ecological Pavilion, from the Digital Shanghai area to the 5G Innovation Zone. Leading companies in the mobile industry will gather, including China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, China Broadnet, Huawei, ZTE, Lenovo, Honor, Qualcomm, Ericsson and Nokia Bell, jointly promoting the development of new-generation connectivity technologies and innovation waves in China and even globally.

In terms of exhibition settings, GSMA revealed that visitors will be able to explore cutting-edge connectivity technologies in five exhibition halls, including both familiar areas from previous exhibitions and newly opened areas in 2023. The Super Hall located in N3 will accommodate companies such as China Mobile, China Telecom, ZTE, and H3C. Lenovo will exhibit for the first time in the Future Ecological Pavilion in N4, which also includes companies providing XR technology solutions. The Digital Shanghai zone will make its debut in Hall N5, showcasing innovation and achievements in Chinese manufacturing. 5G IN will be located in Hall N3, where visitors can discover innovative companies that redefine the mobile ecosystem and launch new technologies.

The exhibition of China Information Communication Technologies Group Corporation (CICT) will be divided into six sections, including Lighting Up the Intelligent Optical Network, Releasing the Value of Digital Intelligence, Leading Innovation to Improve Key Capabilities, Empowering 5G to Promote Scale Applications, Value-driven Sustainable Development of 5G and Chips. It will highlight products and solutions including the intelligent optical network LIGHTS up innovation, integrated sensing solutions, practical application of computational power DIGITS, 5G-A enhanced networks, 5G satellite communications, 6G innovation technology, inter-satellite laser communication solutions, and integrated optoelectronic chips. ZTE will interpret its innovative value from the user’s perspective in seven scenarios, showcasing the expansion of technological boundaries, the integration of core capabilities, and the overall autonomous intelligence of ZTE. Yangtze Optical Fibre and Cable Joint Stock Limited Company (YOFC)’s booth will focus on seven areas including new optical fibers and materials, calculating grid base, ocean communications, digital manufacturing, digital power, digital transportation, and F5G digital life.

Parallel forums will also be held during MWCS23. The 5G Transformation series sub forums will focus on topics including 5G transformation, 5G spectrum, 5G commercial monetization , and the path to 6G. The Digital Everything series sub forums will cover topics including smart cities, digital nations, and digital technology. The Reality+ forum will deeply explore the development future of Metaverse, social networking and games, and the frontier fields of artificial intelligence.
